Opportunities for Outdoor Learning at Glenlivet Estate

Our experienced ranger service staff are happy to welcome your school or youth group to Glenlivet estate to use our visitor and educational facilities and explore the countryside.

Delivering the Curriculum for Excellence at Glenlivet

We believe the countryside is an exciting, motivating place for learning. Outdoor learning can be enjoyable, creative, challenging and adventurous and helps children and young people learn by experience and grow as confident individuals and responsible citizens.

Our staff are experienced in using outdoor learning in the delivery of a variety of curriculum areas and across a range of curriculum levels; working with pre-school children through to senior level.

Activities are carefully structured to provide progressive learning experiences across curriculum levels, and where possible the core areas of literacy, numeracy and health & wellbeing are integrated into outdoor learning.

Health & Safety

A countryside visit provides many excellent opportunities for students and while there are a number of potential hazards in the outdoors these are generally very small and should not detract from the enjoyment of a visit. All of our activities are risk assessed and we encourage students to be a part of the risk management process, identifying hazards and appropriate behaviour as a group before an activity commences.

The Crown Estate holds third party insurance to cover visitors to the Glenlivet estate and all our staff are first aid trained. Please note; Rangers are there to lead the activities and teachers/leaders need to be responsible for the supervision and discipline of the group at all times.

Special Events
From time to time special schools events are organised, such as estate open days, forestry days and tree planting events. Details will be posted as opportunities arise.

Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions
Glenlivet estate is a popular destination for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Our staff are happy to provide advice on suitable routes and suggest wild camping locations. Please contact the ranger service for further details or follow this link
