A short history of Glenlivet and Strathavon is given below with details about particular places of historical interest to be found in the local area and on some of the waymarked walks together with several local stories. This has been compiled on the basis of a circular tour clockwise around the Estate starting in Tomintoul and finishing at The Lecht. For further details of the place names and locations described in the text please consult the free map and guide to the Glenlivet Estate available from the Estate Information Centre or the 1:50,000 scale OS Landranger map for the area (sheet 36).
