About The Crown Estate

There is no organisation in the world quite like The Crown Estate.

One of the most important landed estates in the United Kingdom, The Crown Estate includes urban, rural and marine interests. It occupies a unique place among major landowners.

The Crown Estate is an estate in land which includes:

• Substantial blocks of commercial and residential property throughout the UK including significant London holdings, particularly in Regent Street , Regent's Park and St James's.
• Almost 110,000 ha of agricultural land.
• Extensive marine assets throughout the UK, including 55% of the foreshore, the beds of tidal rivers and all the seabed out to the 12 nautical miles limit.
• The Windsor Estate

The Estate is the property of the Sovereign 'in right of The Crown' and, until the reign of George III, the Sovereign received the rent and profits from the Estate. However, since 1760, the surplus revenue, after deducting management expenses, has been surrendered by the Sovereign to the Exchequer every year as part of the arrangement for the provision of the Civil List.
