With little light pollution our Dark Skies are perfect for some astronomy.
Glenlivet's skies are so good for stargazing we have been awarded a Dark Sky Discovery Site. These are sites with little light pollution, easy access and great views of the night sky.
We have several locations that have easy access and give views of excellent dark skies which include;
- Blairfindy Car Park - Our official Dark Sky Discovery Site (just south west of Glenlivet Distillery, Grid Ref; NJ 187 284). For a better sky walk 175m up the Speyside Way from the car park to the old Glenlivet Still site.
- Scalan (Nr Chapelton, Braes of Glenlivet) Grid Ref; NJ 244 202 (car park). Great views north for the Aurora Borealis
- Glenconglass Car Park (Nr Tomintoul) Grid Ref; NJ 171 224
- Allenreid Car Park (Nr Tomnavoulin) Grid Ref; NJ 236 248
Dark skies are important not only for enjoying some stargazing, but light pollution disturbs animals and ecosystems and wastes energy. We are working to try and improve the Dark Skies around Glenlivet.
For more information and stargazing events see the Tomintoul & Glenlivet Dark Skies website
