Glenlivet bike trails celebrate accolades

BikeGlenlivet, set within The Crown Estate’s Glenlivet Estate near Tomintoul, has been awarded four stars by VisitScotland in recognition of its excellent offering.

It caps another successful year for the trails which have proven to be a popular draw since opening at the end of 2013. Many tens of thousands of visitors have cycled the red and blue trails as well as enjoying the comfort and home cooked food in the Coffee Still café onsite.

The award also follows the centre’s commendation in the ‘place-making’ category in the Cairngorms National Park Design Awards which were announced in November.

The Crown Estate’s Countryside Manager, Vicky Hilton said the award confirmed visitor feedback. “We set out to create bike trails that would not only hold interest and excitement for skilled mountain bikers but also be appropriate for family groups and novices. Our two trails offer a great mix for all visitors and each makes the most of the spectacular scenery.

“As well as the trails, a big part of what we offer is a great café offering local food and a small pump track nearby which is ideal for little ones to practice their turns and jumps. It is also a hub for information about the other activities available on the Glenlivet Estate.”

BikeGlenlivet appears regularly on the ‘Top 10’ lists of biking trails in Scotland and The Crown Estate has been keen to receive visitor feedback. An online survey carried out this summer returned a 100 per cent overall satisfaction rate for the trails and facilities from 70 respondents.

It also revealed that the trails drew many of its riders from the wider Highlands region, mostly as daytrippers. “Our own survey shows that the trails are ideal for most of our visitors, with trails, café and facilities all receiving high approval ratings,” Vicky said. “We are now very much an established part of the tourist offering in the Cairngorms, and proud that we are delivering a facility that is recognised for its quality.”

Set in the stunning Carn Daimh forest near Tomintoul, the BikeGlenlivet centre was developed by The Crown Estate. The trails include a Blue Graded 9km and the Red Graded 22km loop and were expanded in September2015 with the additional of a pump track next to the cafe.
