Knock Earth House (Strathavon).

Discovered in the 1960's by a ploughman working his field, this stone lined underground chamber, now known as the Knock Earth House is of uncertain origin......

A souterrain?

It is thought that it may have originally been constructed as a 'earth house' or souterrain - an underground structure dating from the late Bronze Age

(c 1200BC).

The site of an illicit whisky still?

It is more likely however that the site was built or adapted in the 18th century to house an illicit whisky still, and that this sma' still was disguised by a corn drying kiln constructed next to its entrance.
